Bulerias Workshop
with David Lopez-White
Presented by Flamenco Jukebox
We focused on rhythm patterns which are fundamental to know,
whether you’re playing guitar, singing, dancing, doing palmas, jaleos, etc.
We also worked on our bulerias cortas cantes, a bit of review on letras from previous sessions;
and also how to play with a basic phrase rhythmically when improvising with a dancer in a fiesta.
Over the entire series, we’ve been honing in on what I see as some of the most important and
common keys to understanding bulerias. We’ll continue with trying to put it all together –
the basic goal here is to be able to do a short sequence, including salida de cante, 1st letra, coletilla,
2nd/3rd letras with estribillo endings; and of course rhythmic jaleos along the way.

Here’s a video you may enjoy, fiesta en Lebrija sin guitarra.
I love the palo seco and nudillos (table tapped compas), as well as the spontaneous baile moments!
