In this class we will do a quick review of the Steps Last Method For Learning Flamenco Rhythms where we differentiate between the 12s and the 6s in Bulerias. We will review thirteen foundational rhythmic patterns por Bulerias and their respective functions. We will review each rhythmic pattern and examine how they serve as categories for marking steps. Finally, we will touch on the function and placement of recogidas, remates and llamadas within a 6 or 12 count rhythmic phrase.

 

Once we have a clear idea of the rhythms that can be played under the cante, we will learn and explore two to three letras por Bulerias. We will learn to recognize the individual lines in each verse and understand the structure. We will learn the three main elements of the cante that dancers need to be aware of: a) the poetry, b) the pronunciation and c) the interpretation.

 

Finally, we will learn: a) the function of each line, b) what palmas rhythms are most appropriate to play for each line and c) what options you have to dance the individual lines in the verse.

Time permitting, we will look at a letra de enganche (or coletilla) and discuss the choices you can make as a dancer when the singer launches into one.
