SUMMER 2012 WORKSHOP SERIES
BAILE, CANTE & GUITAR WORKSHOPS with JUAN DEL GASTOR
JUAN DEL GASTOR was born in Moron de la Frontera and is a nephew of the legendary guitarist Diego del Gastor. He has toured with Farruquito and Torombo and has accompanied such revered singers as Camarón de la Isla, Fernanda and Bernarda de Utrera and Miguel Funi. A natural entertainer and festero, Juan loves to sing and dance in the Gypsy style of his home town. His contagious good humor and spontaneity have sparked many an improm ptu flamenco fiesta, which have drawn to a close in the early hours with the sound of his guitar playing a soulful soleá. He is a dedicated and non-intimidating teacher who transmits a contagious sense of flamenco joy wherever he goes, inspiring all with his arte!
Juan is joined by his compañera, LUCI ROZARIO who has lived closely within the Gypsy culture for more than 25 years. She learned her first dance steps in Juan’s family’s weddings and baptisms. Later she learned dance technique with Juan’s relatives Pepe Rios, Juana Amaya and with Angelita Vargas. Luci has worked in the Sevilla Fair, in El Rocio and in many galas. She teaches dance and compás classes in her studio in the center of Seville.
